Subject: ISO: Meal idea to deliver to a new mom + 2 preschoolers?
I have volunteered to put together a meal for a family from church who just had baby #3 and have a 2 and 4 year old at home. There are no food allergies or issues, and I am told the 2 young kids will eat whatever the mom and dad eat for dinner. Nice!

I'm looking for a meal that I can drop off for them this Saturday afternoon-- my thought is she can refrigerate it and then put in the oven later when they are ready to eat dinner. Do any tried and true yummy casseroles come to mind? I can do dinner rolls and something for dessert to round it out.

Anyway, I'd love your ideas, especially those of you who do these types of meals for families.

Thanks!
Katie

First thing I think of, is homemade mac & cheese with some ham and veggies in it, a pot of chili with cornbread, baked cabbage rolls, or stuffed peppers. Lasagna wouldn't be too bad, nor would a quiche, both pre-baked, and then just tossed into the oven to reheat.

The CI baked ziti from last year would be great. I'd make the full recipe and split it into 2 8*8 containers. They can heat one and freeze the other.
Shepherd's pie comes to mind as well, most kids love it and it's a complete meal in one dish.

Gosh! I just got CI's Best Make Ahead Recipe, so I'm full of ideas :)

CI's Manicotti is a great make-ahead - I do it all the time lately as all my friends seem to be popping out the young-uns. What you could do is deliver it in 2 8x8 foil pans rather than a single 13x9, so that half can be eaten immediately and half frozen. Deliver with 2 garlic breads (one for now, one for freezing) and a batch of homemade vinaigrette for a salad.
