Prime Day October 2023: The Best and Worst Kitchen Deals

Amazon Prime Big Deal Days are October 10–11, and it’s the perfect time to do a little early holiday shopping or update some of your kitchen equipment.

Jump to a Section

It’s easy to get carried away, but it pays to show some restraint. The ATK Reviews Team has tested thousands of pieces of equipment over the years. We’ve done our research and put in the hours, so we know which gadgets are worthwhile investments and which are a waste of money.

Below we’ve curated a list of products we’ve thoroughly tested and recommend. There’s something for everyone—from larger gadgets to everyday essentials. Since we don't accept ads or free samples, we're always honest about equipment we don't like (those are also included in the list so that you know what to stay away from.)

We’ve divided the gear into four categories: Small Tools, Big Deals; The Best Deals of the Day; Deals to Consider; and Deals to Avoid.

And keep checking back! We'll be updating this page with more Deals of the Day as they're released. (Please note that deals are subject to change)

Small Tools, Big Deals

Although they’re small, they have big value.

Checkered Chef Cooling Rack - Set of 2 Stainless Steel

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $13.56 (usually $16.96)

Amazon Discount: 20%

You Save: $3.40

Why We Love It: Although the grid pattern on this rack is slightly larger than on the other two models we reviewed, it’s reinforced with an extra support bar that runs perpendicular to the three main bars. It had a touch more wiggle room in the baking sheets, but it kept pace with the other racks during recipe and durability testing. (There's also an option to use an additional 10% off coupon)

Rubbermaid 13.5" High-Heat Scraper

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $9.78 (usually $22.42)

Amazon Discount: 56%

You Save: $12.64

Why We Love It: This model can feel oversized, but the long handle offers good leverage in deep bowls and pots. The large, flat blade makes quick work of folding whipped egg whites, which would suffer from too much agitation. You may not use it every day, but it can’t be beat for certain tasks. It lost points for staining, but it eventually did come clean.

Bee’s Wrap Assorted 3 Pack

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $9.26 (usually $18.99)

Amazon Discount: 51%

You Save: $9.73

These wraps performed almost as well as our winner; there were only a few occasions when their seals were not quite as strong during our bowl compatibility tests. Still, we were satisfied overall with their seals, and their food storage ability was among the best in our lineup. They scrubbed clean with a bit of effort, and they still clung well after repeated washings.

Chef’n FreshForce Potato Ricer

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $23 (usually $54.99)

Amazon Discount: 58%

You Save: $31.99

This potato ricer had plenty of perforations on the bottom of its hopper, making for neat, efficiently extruded potatoes. The hopper itself is large enough to accommodate big chunks of potato and is easy to clean. You can also rest the ricer on pots of different sizes while you use it. This turns out to be a good thing, since it’s otherwise fairly heavy, weighing nearly 1.5 pounds. While this ricer only extrudes potatoes at a fixed fineness, with no coarser or finer options, we think this one setting should be more than adequate for most people.

Di Oro Silicone Spatula

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $10.97 (usually $17.97)

Amazon Discount: 39%

You Save: $7

This model is firm enough for scraping and scooping but also fits neatly into tight corners. Its straight sides and wide, flat blade ensured that no food was left unmixed. The all-silicone design eliminates any crannies that could trap food. It felt exceptionally comfortable.

Kitchen Mama Electric Can Opener

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $20.99 (usually $35)

Amazon Discount: 40%

You Save: $14.01

This opener was the best of the battery-powered options. Its cutting mechanism left behind safe, smooth lid and can edges, and it was easy to operate with a few pushes of a single large button. It stayed stable on cans of all sizes, even narrow 6-ounce cans of tomato paste. Its cutting wheel became slightly bent after opening more than a dozen cans, but it was still able to open cans without issue.

Zulay Kitchen Milk Boss Electric Milk Frother

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $11.99 (usually $19.99)

Amazon Discount: 40%

You Save: $8

This frother consistently made satisfying foam at the push of a button. As with all the handheld models, we had to operate it for longer than the manufacturer instructions recommended when making cold foam, but once we did, it created the richest cold foam of the handheld bunch. Since it was our winner, we put it through additional testing, mixing up small batches of whipped cream, beating one or two eggs, and emulsifying vinaigrette. In addition to being a great milk frother, it’s a handy tool for small cooking tasks. We loved the comfortable grip, and we appreciated that it took little effort to rinse the wand clean.

Best Deals of the Day

We’ve tested these models and were impressed by their performance. They’re worth the money, with or without the sale.

Vitamix 5200 Blender

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $299.95 (usually $549.99)

Amazon Discount: 45%

You Save: $250.04

This quiet, high-powered blender has simple, intuitive controls. As for its blending capability, it was top-notch. It was able to produce fine-textured foods without incorporating excess air, thanks to its narrow blender jar. The tamper accessory was helpful when blending thicker foods, and the blender’s 7-year warranty insured our investment. It’s tall, at 20.25 inches, so it can’t be stored on a counter beneath a standard 18-inch-tall cabinet, and its narrow jar made scraping out its contents a minor challenge.

GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker 2.0

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $529 (usually $649)

Amazon Discount: 22%

You Save: $120

Our winning nugget ice maker is at its lowest price we’ve ever seen. We loved this model because it was among the most efficient models we tested, producing just over 1.5 pounds of crisp, clean-tasting nugget ice per hour. It was easy to install, clean (thanks to its self-cleaning mode), and use. We think its performance can justify its typically pricey price tag for nugget-ice aficionados.

Rachael Ray Jumbo Chillout Thermal Tote

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $23.99 (usually $29.99)

Amazon Discount: 20%

The newer version of our former winner works just as well as the original. In a 90-degree room, this tote kept orange juice safely below 40 degrees for 2 hours. This was no surprise, given its moderate size, thick layer of insulating foam, and additional gauze-like filler designed to maintain the bag’s interior temperature. Its square, flat design and wide woven shoulder strap made it comfortable for short and tall testers alike.

T-Fal Professional Non-Stick Fry Pan, 12.5-Inch

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $27.85 (usually $59.99)

Amazon Discount: 54%

You Save: $32.14

We’ve recommended this nonstick skillet for years. It’s induction-compatible and available at a great price—especially today. It has a spacious and slippery surface. It's also very light and the squishy handle is comfortable to hold. Note that the cooking surface is slightly domed so that oil runs to the edges and fried eggs rarely turn out perfectly round. It's also too wide to fit a standard 12-inch lid. It’s otherwise an excellent pan. The 8-inch version, which we’ve also tested and recommend, is on sale for 68% off during Prime Day.

Braun TriForce Power Blender

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $163.35 (usually $249.95)

Amazon Discount: 35%

You Save: $86.60

This blender did a great job with every task, from mayonnaise to almond butter. Smoothies were a tad frothy thanks to this model’s wide jar but otherwise more than acceptable. And it’s relatively quiet, which we appreciated. We liked its clear, well-labeled digital interface and speed dial.

KitchenAid 3-Piece Pasta Roller and Cutter Set

On Sale: Tuesday

Sale Price: $149.96 (usually $199.97)

Amazon Discount: 25%

You Save: $49.04

If you own a KitchenAid stand mixer and appreciate the convenience of its attachments, we recommend this pasta roller and cutter set. Both the sheets and the strands that the attachments produced were on par with the pasta made with Marcato, our favorite manual pasta maker. It was simple to attach the roller and cutters to the machine and easy to change the thickness settings of the roller. Because the roller and the cutters are suspended from the mixer above the countertop, it was easy to feed dough into them with one hand and catch the sheets or cut pasta strands with the other—a task that takes some practice when using the hand-cranked Marcato model.

KitchenAid Artisan Mini 3.5 Quart Stand Mixer

On Sale: All day Tuesday

Sale Price: $259.99 (usually $379.99)

Amazon Discount: 32%

You Save: $120.00

This petite mixer aced nearly every test, outperforming many of the 17 models we tested. It struggled with sticky, heavy, high-hydration pizza dough, indicating that it lacks sufficient torque for very difficult mixing jobs. Lighter and more compact than other KitchenAid models, this would work for someone with limited space who doesn’t plan to make high-volume recipes such as double batches of baked goods.

Instant Omni Pro 18L Air Fryer Toaster Oven

On Sale: Tuesday

Sale Price: $109.99 ($199.99)

Amazon Discount: 45%

You Save: $90

This air-fryer toaster oven did a great job of air frying, producing crisp, evenly golden french fries and chicken Parmesan. It put a good char on asparagus while broiling and made a gorgeous roast chicken too. Rack positions for each cooking mode were indicated on the door, helping us cook food properly. The cooking countdown conveniently paused when we opened the door to flip food. We especially appreciated its temperature probe attachment, which automatically cooked the chicken to our preferred temperature and then prompted the machine to shut off. Its large touch-screen interface was easy to navigate and select settings from; we liked that we could choose from two different fan speeds for convection settings. Our main complaint? Like many of the machines we’ve tested, it doesn’t make great toast, routinely requiring us to use the darkest setting just to get lightly colored toast, and it wasn’t particularly consistent when we used it to toast multiple pieces.

Rachael Ray Expandable Lasagna Lugger

On Sale: All day Tuesday

Sale Price: $27.99 (usually $34.99)

Amazon Discount: 20%

You Save: $7.00

Insulated food carriers are designed to keep casseroles hot en route to a potluck, picnic, or holiday dinner. Our winner excelled in our tests, keeping food ripping hot for more than 3 hours. Its sturdy frame expands upward to fit two 13 by 9-inch baking dishes, while a handy zippered pocket holds serving utensils. Want more ways to keep food at the right temperature? Our favorite insulated shopping tote, also from Rachael Ray, is on sale today too. It’s great for carting refrigerated and frozen foods home from the supermarket.

T-Fal Ultimate EZ-Clean Fryer

On Sale: All day Tuesday

Sale Price: $91.70 (usually $129.99)

Amazon Discount: 29%

You Save: $38.29

This electric deep-fryer made food that was almost always perfect. Its large basket held a large quantity and made it easy to lower and lift the food during use; its high walls and lid contained messes nicely. A built-in filter and handy oil-storage container made the cleanup process a bit easier than other models. One caveat: Like the other fryers, it maxes out at around 374 degrees, so it can't quite fry those quick-cooking, high-heat foods, such as tempura, as nicely as a Dutch oven can.

Breville the Barista Express

On Sale: All Day Tuesday

Sale Price: $559.95 (usually $699.95)

Amazon Discount: 20%

You Save: $140

If you’re been intrigued by home-brewed espresso, now it’s time to pull the trigger. This handsome machine is perfect if you want the convenience of built-in grinding and automatic weighing of coffee, as well as push-button brewing, but you don’t mind some hands-on work. There’s a little learning to do, but the machine is designed to help you quickly get started. We loved that the machine came with everything you need—tamper, milk frothing jug, and portafilters for single and double espresso—and had a hidden drawer to store it all.

Duxtop Portable Induction Cooktop

On Sale: Tuesday (Lightning Deal)

Sale Price: $108.19 (usually $152.99)

Amazon Discount: 29%

You Save: $44.80

This induction cooktop has an intuitive and responsive control panel that makes it easy to adjust the time and temperature for various cooking tasks. It brought water to a boil in 24 minutes and kept cheese fondue at a constant temperature (140 degrees Fahrenheit) for more than 4 hours without scorching. It has a few limitations, including its 6-inch heating coil that works best with smaller cookware and it took a bit longer to heat up oil for deep frying.

Toshiba 6-Cup Rice Cooker with Fuzzy Logic

On Sale: All day Tuesday

Sale Price: $119.99 (usually $149.99)

Amazon Discount: 20%

You Save: $30.00

This model—a close runner-up in our evaluation of about a dozen models—made delicious, evenly cooked rice in all our tests; its cooking bowl just lacked the helpful stay-cool handles of our winner’s. The light-colored measurement labels inside the dark-colored cooking bowl were easy to read. This rice cooker’s timer began counting down when a cooking cycle started, and it beeped audibly when a cooking cycle ended. In our tests, this model kept cooked rice at a food-safe temperature for 12 hours. If you want perfectly cooked rice all the time, this is a worthwhile purchase.

Simplehuman 50L Rectangular Step Can

On Sale: All day Tuesday

Sale Price: $111.99 (usually $159.99)

Amazon Discount: 30%

You Save: $48.00

We appreciated the foot pedal on this model, which flips the lid open completely and allows it to close slowly when released, as well as its sleek but spacious frame. But our winner does more than just meet all our basic requirements for a trash can; its additional features show impressive attention to detail, including: a fingerprint-proof stainless-steel exterior, a lightweight liner that can be slid out completely for cleaning or lifted onto an interior rest for easy bag changes, air vents that prevent air bubbles from forming around the bag, and a small switch that can be easily flipped to keep the lid open for extended tasks. It also remained virtually odor-free after sitting for a weekend with raw onion, tuna fish, and hard-cooked eggs inside. Although Simplehuman manufactures custom “size Q” bags, we found that any standard 13-gallon bag will work.

SodaStream Terra (Bundle)

On Sale: All day Tuesday

Sale Price: $99.99 (usually $159.95)

Amazon Discount: 37%

You Save: $59.96

Our top-rated soda maker is easy to use. Simply press the large button on the top of the machine until you’ve obtained your desired level of carbonation. The plastic water bottles connect to the machine easily and are dishwasher-safe. The machine uses SodaStream’s new “quick connect” CO2 canisters, which slide into the back of the machine and lock into place when you pull down a plastic handle. This deal comes as a bundle meaning it includes two 60L CO2 cylinders and three 1-liter dishwasher-safe BPA-free reusable carbonating bottles.

If you prefer glass water bottles, we recommend the SodaStream Aqua Fizz. The bundle is about $60.00 off today.

Shun Multi-Purpose Shears

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $42.95 (usually $52.17)

Amazon Discount: 18%

You Save: $9.22

Superior blades gave our favorite the edge. With a razor-sharp 25-degree angle, the shears’ cutter blade sliced through every kind of food with equal ease. Deep, angular serrations on the anvil blade helped secure slippery foods. The blades’ length (the longest in the lineup) ensured smooth, continuous cutting; their overall narrowness made them easy to maneuver; and a medium level of tension between them provided just enough shearing force without taxing our hands. They’re ambidextrous, comfortable to hold, and can be taken apart for cleaning.

Bonus: A Deal from ThermoWorks

Over the years, we've tested many thermometers and timers from ThermoWorks—and we like many of them a lot. These products are not available on Amazon but the company is running a sale of its own this week.

ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $69.96 (usually $99.95)

Thermoworks Discount: 30%

You Save: $30.00

The newest instant-read thermometer by ThermoWorks is the best we’ve tested yet. It has all the features we loved in our previous favorite: a large, grippy handle; a rotating screen with large, highly legible numbers; and a backlight that goes on when viewing conditions are dim. It’s waterproof to a water depth of 39 inches for 30 minutes, it goes to sleep when not in use, and the display wakes up automatically when you pick up the entire unit. The ONE improves on its predecessor, though: As its name indicates, it takes just 1 second to measure a temperature.

Deals to Consider

These are some models we reviewed and liked but might not have loved. Some lack a few useful features. Others are a bit smaller than ideal. Depending on the size of your household or how you plan to use each item, you might be unfazed by those drawbacks and thrilled to scoop something up at a good price.

To help you weigh the pros and cons, we’ve offered a suggestion for what you might want to buy instead. Read on to see what’s right for you.

Bentgo All-in-One Stackable Bento Lunch Box

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $13.59 (usually $29.99)

Amazon Discount: 55%

You Save: $16.40

This plastic model’s 5-cup capacity was plenty for us, and we appreciated that we could use the top compartment on its own, too, simply by changing the direction of the elastic band. There was some leaking when we filled it with water, though, and the lid didn’t always shut tight—we had to give it an extra-firm push to fully close it. It also came with a fork, knife, and spoon that were stored between the compartments, but users found this to be more of an inconvenience than an asset because the utensils didn’t easily click into place and moved around during transport.

BUY NOW AND SAVE 55%

What to Consider Instead: Our winner, the Monbento MB Square, had the largest capacity in the lineup, with two 4-ounce containers that could be used together or separately—the latter option allowing us to pack different foods or prep two meals at once. Both containers were more than 2 inches deep, so it was easy to stir in and eat from them without spilling. The airtight lids sometimes required a bit of strength to remove, but we didn’t mind because it was the only container that never leaked. This plastic model retained a barely noticeable sardine smell after one wash, but that faded after a second wash. This model is available in a variety of colors.

Lodge Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron Dutch Oven

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $84.40 (usually $99.90)

Amazon Discount: 16%

You Save: $15.50

This 7.5-quart pot had a light interior that made it easy to see into and large looped handles that were easy to grab, even with clumsy oven mitts. It was the heaviest pot we tested, and we found that extra weight trying when we had to haul it out of the oven full of beef stew or flip it during cleaning. But for all that heft, it had a comparatively small cooking surface, thanks to sides that sloped in, eating up flat, usable space; this meant it took more batches to sear the beef and meatballs. It passed our durability test handily.

BUY NOW AND SAVE 16%

What to Consider Instead: Our winner, the Le Creuset 7¼ Quart Round Dutch Oven, was pricey but bested the competition. It was substantial enough to hold and distribute heat evenly without being unbearably heavy. The light-colored interior combined with low, straight sides gave us good visibility and made it easy to monitor browning and thermometer position. The broad cooking surface saved us time since we could cook more food at once. The lid was smooth and easy to clean. This pot is expensive, but it was exceptionally resistant to damage.

Simplehuman Rechargeable Sensor Pump

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $49.99 (usually $69.99)

Amazon Discount: 29%

You Save: $20.00

This sleek, compact device lets you customize the amount of soap dispensed according to how closely you place your hand to the spout, a feature we especially appreciated when cooking with messy foods. It’s powered by a lithium battery (included), which recharges via a proprietary cable, offering a good alternative to buying and replacing regular batteries. (After its initial charge, it didn’t need recharging during nearly two months of testing.) The device is steel, so it can also be difficult to judge how full it is at a glance. It works best with a viscous but not overly thick soap, such as liquid Softsoap.

BUY NOW AND SAVE 29%

What to Consider Instead: Our winner, the Secura 17oz Premium Automatic Soap Dispenser, is very easy to set up and fill. A volume dial lets you adjust the amount of soap it dispenses. It uses four AA batteries, which are not included. We liked that the battery chamber is in the column behind the dispenser rather than underneath, so it won’t get wet.

Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle

On Sale: Wednesday

Sale Price: $132 (usually $165)

Amazon Discount: 20%

You Save: $33

This kettle boiled water fairly quickly and had a thoughtfully designed spout that dispensed slowly, making it ideal for pour-over coffee. Its single knob was also satisfyingly simple to operate, and we liked that its hold function was automatic. But it had no discernible sound or light to indicate when it had reached our desired temperature, which left us hovering over the temperature display, lest we miss our moment. Its concave lid is also potentially dangerous: The knob is almost flush with the top of the lid’s sides, which put our fingers dangerously close to the steam vents. It wasn’t as accurate as other models; it was often off by 3 to 4 degrees.

BUY NOW AND SAVE 20%

What to Consider Instead: Our winning adjustable kettle, the OXO Brew Adjustable Temperature Pour-Over Kettle, consistently boiled water in less than 3 minutes, besting every other kettle in the lineup by at least a minute. Its easily visible capacity line and single-knob controls made filling and operating a breeze, and its comfortable, grippy handle and lightweight construction made it easy to hold and steadily pour water for a perfect pour-over coffee. It was also the most accurate option: It hit every custom-selected temperature within 1 degree and held it for 30 minutes.

Our favorite boil-only kettle, the Bodum Bistro Gooseneck Electric Water Kettle, was capacious but lightweight and boiled the fastest of the boil-only kettles, coming in consistently at around 4 minutes. Its maximum capacity line was easy to see, and its large on-off switch lit up in a vibrant blue that we could spot from across the room. This kettle’s comfortable handle and thin, nimble spout made making pour-over coffee a pleasure. Our winning kettles are also substantially less expensive than the Fellow Stagg, with or without a sale.

Deals to Avoid

We’ve tested many of the kitchen tools included in Prime Day, and some of the models just aren’t worth the money.

bev by BLACK+DECKER Cocktail Maker

Prime Day Deal: bev by BLACK+DECKER Cocktail Maker

On Sale: Wednesday

Why You Should Skip it: Though this machine’s drinks were a touch more flavorful and balanced than those from other models, they were still far worse than those made with fresh ingredients. We liked that we could simply attach liquor bottles to this machine rather than decant them into other machines’ required bottles. Its controls were also usually easy to interpret and use. But when we inserted capsules and closed the lid to lock them in place, the capsule housing often felt so flimsy and fragile that we thought it might break. It housed five spirit bottles and allowed us to make a few more drinks than its competitors, but the machine was taller and bulkier as a result.

OXO Good Grips Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl Set

Prime Day Deal: OXO Good Grips 3-Piece Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl Set

On Sale: Wednesday

Why You Should Skip It: Apart from having wide rims, these bowls were not user-friendly—and certainly not worth the high price. Their small, Santoprene-coated bases caused them to spin and almost tip over as we mixed. Plus, the company does not recommend using them in a double boiler, lest the exterior plastic coating come in contact with the pot and overheat.

Rabbit Automatic Electric Corkscrew Wine Bottle Opener

Prime Day Deal: Rabbit Automatic Electric Corkscrew Wine Bottle Opener

On Sale: Wednesday

Why You Should Skip It: We didn’t have control over this automatic opener; it began whirling even when we applied very light pressure. It was also slow to open bottles with both synthetic and natural corks because we couldn’t determine how much pressure we should use in order for the worm to pierce them. It has a removable cap with a built-in foil cutter, but the cutter didn’t work well. On the other hand, we appreciated the automation when releasing the cork since it required no effort.

KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment

Prime Day Deal: KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment

On Sale: Wednesday

Why You Should Skip It: For home cooks who already own a KitchenAid Pro Line stand mixer, this attachment is a tempting option. Our panel approved of its desserts, especially the “lush” sorbet, but quibbled with a few ice crystals. We also liked its speedy churning. However, the two-part paddle design was fussy and difficult to attach, and it was hard to fill the bowl without spilling. Its high horizontal blades got in the way of our thermometer and let clumps of sorbet or ice cream spin around on top unmixed, forcing us to stop the machine often to scrape down the bowl or take the mixture’s temperature.

HexClad Residential 12-inch Fry Pan

Prime Day Deal: HexClad Residential 12-inch Fry Pan

On Sale: Wednesday

Why You Should Skip It: This pan wasn’t truly nonstick; eggs stuck to it. Even when we used oil to cook a frittata, slices didn’t come out cleanly. This issue was likely due to its unique design. Unfortunately, the nonstick coating is interrupted by uncoated hexagons of that same stainless steel, which is why food stuck to it. This pricey pan was also on the heavier side, so our hands got tired when lifting it, both with and without food inside.

T-Fal Professional Nonstick Cookware Set, 12-Piece

Prime Day Deal: T-Fal Professional Nonstick Cookware Set, 12-Piece

On Sale: Wednesday

Why You Should Skip It: We love nonstick skillets and think the ones included in this set are great. However, nonstick pots and pans aren't nearly as versatile and are usually a waste of money.
