America's Test Kitchen

In celebration of 100 Recipes—a book which lists, in our estimation, the 100 most essential recipes in the history of the Test Kitchen—our beloved television personalities each compiled a list of their five favorite recipes from the book. Below, our gadget expert Lisa McManus lists hers, including a simple yet elegant recipe for pan-seared chicken breasts. [Ed's note: This article originally ran on AmericasTestKitchenFeed.com on November 2nd, 2015.]

1. Pan-Seared Chicken Breasts

You might grab a package of boneless skinless chicken breasts for dinner. It seems easy . . . and can go so wrong. This recipe fixes everything.

2. Weeknight Roast Chicken

(Yeah, we eat a lot of chicken in my family.) Roasting it in a searing-hot skillet in the oven instantly solves a lot of problems that arise when trying to evenly cook dark and light meat. Plus, it’s quick.

3. British-Style Currant Scones

This is what a scone is. This is why scones are great.

4. Pork Tinga

This dish has a really addictive taste, nice combination of textures, and it’s not hard to make.

5. Chocolate Pots de Crème

Big flavor, rich and decadent, and so good. (Plus, you get to say pots de crème.) Sort of impressive, but actually pretty easy to make. Get the right chocolate, or it will be harder to nail the texture.
