America's Test Kitchen

Looking to add something to your kitchen arsenal, or buy a gift for a fellow home cook? That tool or gadget you're eyeing might be on sale during Amazon Prime Day (Monday, June 21st, and Tuesday, June 22nd). Here's a list of the Test Kitchen winners that are getting the Prime Day price drop treatment (while supplies last), as well as ones that aren't worth the money.

And keep checking back! We'll be updating this page with more Deals of the Day as they're released.

The Best Deals of the Day

We've tested these products and were impressed by their performances. They're worth the money, with or without the sale.

  • Vitamix blender

    Vitamix 5200

    On Sale: All day Tuesday

    Sale Price: $549.99 $278.99

    Amazon Discount: 49%

This quiet, high-powered blender is a Test Kitchen staple. We love it simple, intuitive controls and straightforward design. It was able to produce fine-textured foods without incorporating excess air, thanks to its narrow blender jar. The tamper accessory was helpful when blending thicker foods, and the blender’s seven-year warranty insured our investment. [BUY NOW

  • Soda Stream Fizzi Soda Maker

    SodaStream Fizzi

On Sale: All day Monday and Tuesday

    Sale Price: $89.99 $49.99

By pressing a large button on the top of the machine, you can quickly and easily carbonate water along a spectrum from mildly fizzy to very bubbly. An internal mechanism latches on to the water bottle and releases it gently. The machine is sturdy and fairly compact, and the water bottles are a convenient size. [BUY NOW]

It's also available with an additional CO2 canister, an extra plastic water bottle, and flavor drops. Ordinarily $149.95, this set is priced at $92.99 (a savings of 38%). [BUY NOW]

  • Soda Stream One Touch soda maker

There’s no guesswork to this automatic model: Simply press one of three preprogrammed buttons (for light, medium, or high carbonation). It’s our pick for people who want consistency as well as those who might find it uncomfortable or difficult to repeatedly press a button or lever. [BUY NOW]

  • Breville Joule Sous Vide

    Breville Joule Sous Vide

    On Sale: Tuesday

    Sale Price: $249.95 $159.95

    Amazon Discount: 36%

    You Save: $90.00

This simple, small, sleek model aced every test: It was the most powerful of the lineup at 1,100 watts, making it the fastest to heat water, and it held whatever temperature we set with perfect accuracy, whether we were cooking for 12 minutes or 20 hours. Easy and quick to set and monitor via an extremely user-friendly app (that’s compatible with iOS and Android), it’s also simple to clip onto any size vessel for cooking (if desired, a strong magnet in the base lets you stand it in metal pots without clipping it). Because it has no display, it isn’t harmed when it’s dropped in the water, unlike other models. Its small, lightweight, and slim profile makes it a snap to store when you’re done cooking. (Note: The only difference between the white model and the stainless-steel version, is the trim on the outside of the device. Only the stainless-steel version is on sale.) [BUY NOW]

  • T-Fal deep fryer

    T-Fal Ultimate EZ-Clean Fryer

On Sale: 5 p.m. EST Monday through Tuesday

    Sale Price: $109.52 $78.60

    Amazon Discount: 28%

    You Save: $30.92

This electric deep-fryer made food that was almost always perfect, and in the same time and number of batches as our Dutch oven. Its large basket held lots of food and is easy to lower and lift; its high walls and lid contained messes nicely. And while we didn't love cleaning its many parts, a built-in filter and oil storage container made the process a bit easier than with other models. [BUY NOW]

  • Amazon Basics Dutch oven

Amazon Basics Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, 7.3-Quart

On Sale: All day Monday and Tuesday

    Sale Price: $59.99 $41.99

    Amazon Discount: 30%

    You Save: $18.00

This pot has a light interior that made it easy to monitor browning and is roomy enough for deep frying and big-batch cooking. Because it has a smaller cooking surface than our top-rated models from Le Creuset and Cuisinart, it takes more batches (and time) to sear foods. It's also only ovensafe to 400 degrees, so you can't bake breads in it. But it's an otherwise great pot available at a tiny fraction of the cost of many other Dutch ovens. It's available in Navy, Light Pink, Grey, and more. [BUY NOW]

If you'd prefer a slightly smaller Dutch oven that's lighter and easier to carry, the 6-quart version of the Amazon Basics Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven is also 30% off. Ordinarily $46.49, it's just $32.54 while supplies last. [BUY NOW]

  • Cuisinart Chef’s Style Stainless Tabletop Grill

Cuisinart Chef’s Style Stainless Tabletop Grill

On Sale: Ends 12 a.m. EST Monday

    Sale Price: $219.99 $140.78

    Amazon Discount: 36%

    You Save: $79.21

Square, sharp edged, and slightly awkward to carry due to a handle that is off-center when you pick it up, this doesn’t really feel like a portable grill. It also takes only a 20-pound, full-size propane canister. But it’s a terrific choice as a compact grill for home use, offering plenty of power and two burners that create separate heat zones, plus a high-arching lid that allows for larger cuts of meat. Its grate is roomy, with heavy-duty, round steel bars, and with large, simple parts in the interior, it’s easy to clean. Steak and burgers were beautifully seared with excellent grill marks, and the pork loin cooked well—once we realized we really had to turn down the heat on this powerful grill. [BUY NOW]

  • Amazon Basics digital scale

Amazon Basics Stainless Steel Digital Kitchen Scale

On Sale: All day Monday and Tuesday

    Sale Price: $10.99 $7.69

    Amazon Discount: 30%

    You Save: $3.30

If you've debated getting a digital scale, now is the time to do it. This model is accurate, easy to use, and an absolute bargain. Its two buttons—one to change the unit of measurement and one to turn the scale on and tare it—are responsive and clearly labeled. Its screen is a little small, but the numbers are legible. Deals Worth Considering

These are some products we reviewed and liked but might not have loved. Read on to see if they're right for you.

  • Amazon Basics kettle

Amazon Basics Electric Glass and Steel Kettle - 1.7-Liter

On Sale: All day Monday and Tuesday

    Sale Price: $31.98 $20.01

    Amazon Discount: 26%

    You Save: $11.97

Like our favorite electric kettle from OXO, this glass kettle can hold 60 ounces of water and its power button is conveniently located at the base of its handle. It also boiled water quickly. Unfortunately, the spout was large and water poured from it in a wide stream, even when it was almost empty and we were very careful. That made it hard to use for pour-over coffee and other precise tasks. The lid bounced back and forth when we opened it, occasionally sending droplets of hot water flying. [BUY NOW]

  • Le Creuset grill pan

Le Creuset Signature Square Skillet Grill 10.25"

    On Sale: All day Tuesday

    Sale Price: $161.93 $99.95

    Amazon Discount: 38%

    You Save: $61.98

While this handsome enameled pan produced excellent grilled panini, it didn’t perform as well with stickier, more delicate salmon, whose char marks stuck in the pan (we patched it up with glaze, but it still didn’t look great). It also required more scrubbing to get clean than our winning uncoated cast-iron grill pans. But we like its flaring walls, which helped us get a spatula under food at a lower, more comfortable angle. [BUY NOW]

  • Amazon Basics food storage containers

Amazon Basics Tritan Locking 22-Piece Food Storage Container Set - Clear

On Sale: All day Monday and Tuesday

    Sale Price: $34.99 $25.57

    Amazon Discount: 27%

    You Save: $9.42

This set resisted staining and was leakproof from the beginning to the end of testing, just like our favorite sets of plastic food storage containers from Rubbermaid. The largest piece had a nearly 11-cup capacity, and has a relatively broad and shallow shape that allows foods to cool quickly and reheat evenly. The silicone gaskets on the lids helped ensure a tight seal, but are set into the lid so deeply that they are hard to clean properly. The largest lids have four separate latches that make them more finicky to close. [BUY NOW]

Deals to Stay Away From (and What to Buy Instead)

We've tested many of the kitchen tools included in Prime Day, and some of the products just aren't worth the money. Here are the products that you're better off skipping, and what we recommend buying instead.

Two products we recommend over the Prime Day products: Lodge Classic Cast Iron Skillet and USA Pan Loaf Pan

Prime Day Deal: Amazon Basics Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet - 12-Inch

What You Should Buy Instead: Lodge Classic Cast Iron Skillet, 12" [BUY NOW]

The Amazon Basics pan outweighs our winning cast-iron skillet from Lodge by almost a pound, so it took more effort to handle and lift, and it has a noticeably rougher surface that will take longer to build up seasoning than the smoother surface of the Lodge pan. Simply put: The Amazon Basics requires more effort from the home cook and because the Lodge is so inexpensive, there's no real adavantage to buying the Amazon Basics pan.

Prime Day Deal: Amazon Basics Silicone Loaf Pan, 8.5 x 4-Inch

What You Should Buy Instead: USA Pan Loaf Pan, 1 lb Volume [BUY NOW]

We've tested lots of silicone bakeware over the years–and we've always been disappointed in the results. The material is floppy, which makes it hard to carry a full pan from the counter to the oven without spilling the batter. The silicone also tends to retain odors and doesn't have any real advantage over metal bakeware like this top-rated loaf pan from USA Pan. It has straight edges so sandwich bread, pound cake, and other loaves look as pretty and professional as anything you can buy in a bakery.
