Our recent cookbook, Naturally Sweet, is your ultimate guide to baking with less sugar. Perfect for bakers of all kinds, the book opens with essential information, including a substitution chart and a breakdown of the science of sugar. And best of all, the 120 revolutionary recipes for great-tasting baked goods and desserts rely on less processed sweeteners (Sucanat, coconut sugar, date sugar, maple syrup, and honey) and taste as good as the originals.

The signs of fall have officially arrived, with peaches and stone fruits beginning to make way for apples and squash on grocery store shelves. But it's not too late to savor the final flavors of summer! Fanny from Oh Sweet Day! recently prepared our naturally sweet Peach Pie—hear what she had to say about it, then visit her site to get the recipe.

For our naturally sweet version of this end of summer classic, Sucanat is used to replace granulated sugar, letting the natural sweetness of the peaches do most of the heavy lifting. With the addition of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom we add another layer of aromatic flavor to the pie filling.

“First the all-butter pie crust was a sure-win one,” says Fanny. “The addition of sour cream, which was new to me, helped slow down the development of gluten and ensured a tender and flaky crust. I used Sucanat in place of white sugar for the pie filling.”

“The pie came out wonderfully. I would never have guessed it has less sugar. I happen to really enjoy Sucanat’s deep molasses flavor…” wrote Fanny.

“Simply taking the sugar out of the recipes can have disastrous results—often desserts baked with an insufficient amount of sugar will come out dry and grainy. Add to that the challenges inherent in using natural sweeteners (like coconut sugar, honey, and maple syrup), and it becomes clear that baking this way requires creative techniques and thoughtful solutions.”

“If you’re looking for a book with recipes for sweet treats using far less sugar, I’m sure this is the book you want.”
