Take a look at those innocent-looking green orbs in the photo. What if I told you it could be one of the most lucrative crops in existence—we're talking $7,000 yield per acre—and that very few people are actually growing it?

If this sounds too good to be true, you're right. These are black walnuts (despite its green exterior) and there's one catch: It's an incredibly, maddeningly, infuriatingly difficult nut to crack open. And when we heard about newbie farmer Mike Trinklein trying to make money from black walnuts, we knew it was a story we had to tell on Proof.

(Side note: In the episode we mention a recipe for Elva Norman's Black Walnut Cake. Here's the link to it.)

This is the season 10 premiere of Proof, and we couldn't be more excited to bring you eight amazing episodes these next few months. We'd love nothing more than for you to spend some time with these immersive, funny, poignant, and compelling stories. We've got links here to all your favorite podcast players.
