Versatile and crispy, tortilla chips are a beloved snack-time staple. But why settle for plain store-bought tortilla chips when you can have homemade pizza-flavored chips instead?

To make tortilla chips you just need—surprise—tortillas.

In this recipe, we use four flour tortillas that each get cut into eight triangles. To create a spice mix packed with pizza flavor, stir together Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, and salt.

Many homemade tortilla chips recipes call for frying the tortillas in hot oil, but the method we use in this recipe developed for The Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs is easier, cleaner, and safer than that.

Just spray the tortilla wedges with vegetable oil spray, sprinkle and coat them evenly with the pizza seasoning, and pop them in a 350-degree oven until they’re golden and crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Once you discover how easy making your own tortilla chips is, a whole world of customization opens up to you. Why stop with pizza flavoring? Try using packaged ranch seasoning mix or, if you’re feeling sweet, a cinnamon-sugar blend.

Then, experiment with different dip pairings—salsa and guacamole are classic choices, but you could also push the pizza flavor further with a cheese or tomato-based dip. Let your imagination loose and make snack time your time to shine.
