Why You Should Bake Ice Cream Right Into Your Apple Pie

There’s no pairing quite like a warm apple pie and a scoop of ice cream. They’re such an iconic duo, in fact, that we decided to make them one

That’s right, our delicious Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Pie isn’t just served with a scoop of the good stuff; it has ice cream crammed right into the filling to make it that much creamier and smoother, for the perfect pie experience.

While Dutch apple pie usually relies on cream within the filling to achieve its signature flavor and texture, we went the extra mile and added sweet, melted vanilla ice cream for a richer, more robust flavor to complement the apples.

But it’s not enough to just add the ice cream to the mixture for the filling. We allow sliced Golden Delicious apples to marinate in the melted ice cream along with cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice until they’re soft and pliable.

This way, the apples not only soak up the flavor of the ice cream but also the mixture becomes more cohesive to ensure that the filling bakes evenly.

If that doesn’t have you running to the store for a pint or two (and letting it melt on the trip home), then I don’t know what will. To learn how to make our Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Pie, you can watch the video above.
