Here's the best way to achieve mess-free crumb crusts every time.
While it's a lot easier to put together a crumb crust than to roll out traditional pie dough, that doesn't mean that crumb crusts are problem-free. The crust can be too crumbly and loose, and it often sticks to everything but the pie plate. Here's how to make even, mess-free crumb crusts every time.
1. DISTRIBUTE & PRESS: Use your hands to distribute the crumbs in an even layer over the bottom and up the sides of the pie plate. Press down lightly.
2. SMOOTH INTO PAN: Place a piece of plastic wrap on top of the crust, then run the back of a dinner spoon over the crumbs, smoothing them into the bottom, curves, and sides of the pan.
