The fat makes all the difference.

For some recipes such as tzatziki, we prefer a less acidic, full fat yogurt, (which can have three times as much fat as low-fat yogurt). Of the four national brands of whole-milk yogurt that we tasted, we found two of them too sour. Tasters preferred the two whole-milk yogurts with the most fat; one of which had a slightly richer flavor profile that made it the overall winner.
Everything We Tested
Highly Recommended
The favorite among tasters, this yogurt won praise for its especially "creamy" "smooth" texture and "rich," "well-rounded" flavor.
Recommended
This was a close second for most tasters, and a first choice for others. Mild "lemony" flavors broke through the "rich, buttery" sample for a balanced flavor profile.
Recommended with reservations
While a few tasters enjoyed the "more piquant" tanginess of this lean sample, most found it too astringent for whole milk yogurt.
"Bland," "thin," and "watery" were the overriding sentiments about this supermarket staple yogurt, especially when consumed plain. It performed better in tzatziki sauce.
