Ingredients: 1 3/4 cups, all-purpose flour; 1/2 cup, cocoa powder; 1/2 teaspoon, baking soda; 1/2 teaspoon, table salt; 8 tablespoons, unsalted butter (1 stick), softened but still cool; 3/4 cup, granulated sugar; 1/2 cup, brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled; 1 teaspoon, vanilla extract; 6 tablespoons, unsalted butter, softened; 2 cups, confectioners' sugar; 2 tablespoons, milk; 1/2 teaspoon, peppermint extract (or to taste); 1 - 2 drops, red food coloring; 10-15 , crushed peppermint candies
