Meat that’s too hot to handle can make shredding barbecued beef a tricky task. We decided to lift and shred beef with two of products that promise protection with markedly different approaches. The fleece-lined rubber gloves we tested were too large to give medium-sized hands a good grip on the meat and too stiff to let us easily pull beef into even-sized bits. The fat, sharp, widely spaced tines of the "claws" readily pierced the meat, and the handles stayed cool, helping us comfortably lift a heavy cut of beef. They also shredded beef more quickly than the alternative—pulling with two forks—because the meat didn’t get stuck between the tines.
