This device turns canning jars into hipster-y beverage cups.
Published Sept. 1, 2013.
This thick, BPA-free plastic lid is designed to turn regular and widemouthed canning jars into spill-free drinking vessels. Simply secure the lid in place with a metal canning band and pop a straw into the raised diamond-shaped opening (which can also be used for sipping). However, we found that this hipster-y product wasn’t especially practical. Tightening the band around the lid did create a leakproof seal, but unlike with many conventional water bottles, this lid’s opening cannot be closed to stop spills. What’s more, it can’t transform a jar into a hot drink mug; the plastic lid is heat-resistant, but the glass isn’t insulated and will burn your hand. We’ll stick with turning canning jars into tumblers, not thermoses.
