Prepare Ingredients

brown rice
1 tablespoon
butter, cut into 4 pieces or 1 tablespoon olive oil
½ teaspoon
salt
Water

Gather Cooking Equipment

8-­inch square glass or ceramic baking dish
Kettle
Liquid measuring cup
Spoon
Aluminum foil
Oven mitts
Fork
Dish towel

1½ cups
brown rice
1 tablespoon
butter, cut into 4 pieces, or 1 tablespoon olive oil
½ teaspoon
salt

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Spread brown rice in 8-­inch square glass or ceramic baking dish. Add butter, cut into 4 pieces, (or olive oil) and salt (don’t stir).

Water

Bring water to boil in kettle. Carefully measure 2⅓ cups boiling water into liquid measuring cup. Pour water into baking dish and stir to combine.

Cover baking dish tightly with double layer of aluminum foil (baking dish will be hot, so be careful). Place baking dish on middle rack in oven and bake for 1 hour.

Carefully remove baking dish from oven and uncover (ask an adult for help). Fluff rice with fork, then cover baking dish with clean dish towel. Let rice sit for 10 minutes. Serve.
